I’ve never really had to put up with being the “southern princess,” but I’m happy to admit I do enjoy eating with a group of like-minded Redditors.
I recently visited the “canyon” Reddit food club in San Francisco and it was a blast, and I was lucky enough to enjoy some great food, but I also learned a few new recipes and tips.
I know it’s hard to do on your own, but with the help of the Reddit food clubs community, I’m here to share the wisdom of some of my favorite Redditors with you.
1.
Ask questions and don’t be afraid to ask questions!
When I was in college, I had a great sense of curiosity and I wanted to learn everything.
I’d sit down with a friend who had a really cool cookbook and I’d ask for a recipe.
I never made the same mistakes I did with the food in my freshman year, and it’s a good way to start.
This is a great way to ask a question or two without having to actually cook.
You’ll be able to learn a lot about the food and what makes it tick, and you’ll get to hear a lot of awesome and funny things.
I’ve found that my favorite thing to ask is how to make a good sauce, which can be an eye-opening experience.
There are so many great sauces out there and some of the recipes are incredibly hard to come by. 2.
Be prepared to eat a lot!
It’s a big challenge to keep healthy while working from home, so don’t worry about being skinny or skinny-dipping.
I’m constantly surprised by how much I eat and I’ve learned a lot.
My favorite food to eat out with is a large bowl of soup and a large plate of sushi, but if I can’t eat that, I usually stick to grilled meats, burgers, pizza, and other “fast food” foods.
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, ask a group for suggestions on what they like to eat.
3.
You’re not alone, and if you need a new job, you’re not the only one!
While many Redditors may think it’s impossible to find a job as a chef, there are plenty of jobs out there.
I found out recently that I could work at a restaurant and not be alone with my food.
It’s so much fun to cook, but it’s also so exhausting to get through all the preparation.
It can be hard to make sure you don’t lose your energy while working, but when you have a group, it can help you focus.
You can also try to find new jobs and work remotely if you’re unsure of where to start, but there are a ton of amazing jobs out in the real world, so if you can find a new opportunity, it’ll be worth it. 4.
Don’t make your friends happy!
You know, everyone has their own favorite recipes and their own ideas.
I love to try new things on the spot, so I always have a few suggestions.
I also try not to get overly judgmental, but some of us are just different, so that can get a little awkward.
If I have to try something on my own, I try to use a variety of ingredients, because I don’t want to end up with a recipe that I just don’t like.
5.
If a new dish sounds fun, you can ask about it!
Sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed and not have a good time, so ask questions.
For instance, I recently made a salad with a vegan recipe, and while I was eating it, my friend asked me if I liked it.
I said, “I don’t mind it.
It makes me feel good.”
And he agreed!
I’m sure if he’s ever had a vegan dish, he’ll be happy to hear I was enjoying it!
